This week, we began to create games. We were all assigned resources to make the game Evil Clutches. In this game, you were a mother dragon with the goal of saving her babies from the evil Demon Lord without being killed by one of his demon minions (being a dragon, the player had the ability to shoot fireballs to kill the minions). One crucial decision the player must make is if it is the right time to shoot a fireball. There is always the risk of killing a baby instead of the demon flying at you. The player must also decide where to move in order that the demons will not kill them when the player is trying to collect a baby. This game also has pretty good balance between shooting demons, avoiding to kill/collecting babies, and just general evasion when necessary. It also has a good balance between the player and the game and the game features. The game being as simple as it is, the game does only punish the player for making a mistake and nothing else. The game also has a simple, but distinct set of game features such as the dragon, the fireballs, the demon lord, the babies, the demon minions and the non-interactable background. The game provides rewards in the form of a point system. If you end the game with the highest score, you are put at the top of the scoreboard. In terms of game flow, I would say it flows nicely, but the game also never really gets any harder as time progresses. That being said, there is no real challenge if you know how to play the game well. Another thing that this game could improve soon is its story, because nothing of the likes are actually presented on the actual gameplay. Also. The music is just a simple song looped, which can get pretty annoying if you have been playing the game for an extended period of time. Overall, I think that this game is all i needs to be to be a good game (for my first game).

If I had the chance to earn a professional certification at school, I would definitely use it to my advantage. However, If I were to pursue game art and design as a career (which very well may happen), I don’t think it would be very helpful for me to find a job. That said, it may be helpful, but I don’t know enough about how it works in order to tell that for myself. From what I can speculate on what I do know about a professional certification, it seems that they function better for a student who wants to go deeper into their topic and pursue the higher jobs in that field, like becoming a full game designer. I will say that it would be nice for me to become a game designer, and I already have a lot of ideas that I would love to see being used, but I think my main interests are in the art aspects of designing a game. Personally, I think that the professional certification would not really help me that much with finding a career in that area.
In the past couple of weeks we have been working more with 3D Modeling to further establish our understanding of how to work with 3D models. This week, we have been working with Rigging and Bones. Rigging is where you connect two or more objects with each other in a hierarchical fashion. Basically, this means that if i have 4 boxes and set the middle box at the top of the chain, the middle box will move all the other boxes. If i were to move a box at the bottom of the chain, like the one on the far right, only that box would move (See image below). The process of making bones is almost the same thing, however, bones are more refined and are usually in full models. Bones make the movements of a model seem more life-like. Between the two tools, I would say basic rigging is MUCH easier that working with bones, but bones are easier to use in an actual animation. Both of these processes have helped me understand how models move in an animation and what to do when i want to make an animation. Also, when I look at a ragdoll with my understanding of how bones work, I can't help but laugh at what could be going on inside the model in terms of how the bones are moving.
